The state Senate has passed a bill that would ban use of e-cigarettes and vaping devices by Alaskans under the age of 19.

State law already contains a ban on the use of nicotine by those younger than 19 years old, but the bill passed unanimously by the Senate today would disallow use of vaping devices by those 18 and younger, regardless of their contents.

It was spurred by concerns about flavored vape solutions that lawmakers feel target minors, and acclimatize them to smoking.

The bill will now move to the House for consideration.
