Casinos have been found to be the most common violators of the nationwide smoking ban, the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Alliance-Philippines (FCAP) disclosed yesterday.
Weeks since the start of the implementation of the Executive Order (EO) 26 or the “Establishment of Smoke-Free Environments in Public and Enclosed Places”, FCAP Executive Director Maricar Limpin said casinos are the most common establishments that have been reported to them for not strictly implementing the EO.
“Based on the reports we have been getting, it is the casinos. This is where many violators are being seen,” Limpin stated.
The official said such could be because of the fact that many casino operators are foreigners.
“They have to understand that they are in the Philippines. They have to follow our laws here in the country. They are foreign-owned so they could be thinking that they are exempted. But they are not,” Limpin stressed.
The implementation of the EO 26 was signed by President Duterte last May 16 and officially took effect last July 23.
